Smart Spectrum Handoff Scheme

SMART SPECTRUM HANDOFF SCHEME

Creating A More Agile & User-Friendly Wireless Network Via Cognitive Radio

THE PROBLEM

Spectrum bands are wave frequencies that can transmit audio, text, and visual data to wireless devices. Given that wireless transmission of information continues to grow on a global scale, these bands are an increasingly valuable resource. Conventionalspectrum bands contain many idle frequencies, which make communication less efficient, contributing to service interruptions, lags in speed, and dropped transmissions. As the world's wireless frequency usage rises, there is an immediate need for a system capable of analyzing data and managing spectrum handoff more efficiently and effectively.

OUR SOLUTION

Researchers at The University of Alabama have developed a method for managing wireless frequency usage that uses artificial intelligence to control spectrum handoff in multimedia transmissions over cognitive radio networks. This technology is accomplished using a quenching scheme to determine the priority of each media type being transmitted to find and utilize idle frequencies, which improves user experience, speed, and the quality of the communication.

THE ADVANTAGES

  • Increased efficiency translates into cost-savings
  • Higher quality of multimedia transmissions
  • Better customer experience
  • Reduces service delays and failures
